How to use our candle refills

Did you know that us Brits light on average 6 candles each per year! If we do the maths that is over 400million candles, a high % of which will end up in landfill, even if you put them in the recycling! We usually recommend reusing our glass jars into pen holders or planting herbs in but we wanted to go a step further and make our candles refillable. Having refillable candles mean that we can keep costs down for our loyal customers and keep Mother Nature happy at the same time.

Available in all of our 8 Signature Scents and each refill comes with a new label for the glass jar therefore you are able to change scent each time you buy a refill.

We can keep inspiring you to make self-care part of your daily routine without breaking your bank account or the planet.

First you have to clean your old West Byre Apothecary candle jar.

This is my favourite method, it’s simple and effective!

1.     Boil water and pour into candle jar.

2.     Let it cool and set until all the wax floats to the top.

3.     Remove the set wax from the top of the jar.

4.     Clean out the jar by using hot soapy water.

5.     Leave to dry completely.

(sometimes you may need to repeat steps 1-3 twice if there is a lot of wax remaining in the jar).

Now it is time to refill

1.     Remove your refill from its packaging. This is recyclable so please put this in the recycling bin.

2.     Fold the wick upright so it will light.

3.     On the bottom of the refill remove the orange tab covering the wick sticker.

4.     Place the refill in the clean, dry jar and press down so the sticker adheres to the glass.

5.     Place the new scent label into position.

6.     Place the jar on a flat surface, away from draughts and light the wick.

7.     On the first burn leave the candle lit for 4 hours to ensure the candle does not tunnel.
